He is deputy general manager of Pulike, director of National Drug Veterinary Engineering Technology Research Center, Ph.D. in infectious diseases and preventative veterinary at the College of Veterinary Medicine under China Agricultural University, researcher, and expert enjoying special allowance offered by the State Council. He served as Director of the Technology Research Office of the Experimental Animal Center of the Academy of Military Medical Sciences, director of the veterinary diagnostics room of China Center for Animal Disease Control and Prevention; he is designated expert in porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), member of the National Expert Committee on Animal Epidemic Prevention, the Veterinary Pharmacopoeia Committee of China, highly pathogenic microorganisms laboratory biosafety review committee, and National Committee of Experts on Animal Experiments, vice chairman of the poultry epidemiology branch of China Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Society, deputy secretary-general of the dog raising branch, and executive director of the Veterinary Public Health Branch. Dr. Tian Kegong is member of the first National Expert Committee on Animal Epidemic Prevention and head of the expert group on highly pathogenic PRRS team; he is also chief expert in recognizing high pathogenic PRRS and presiding over the research of highly pathogenic PRRS vaccine.

He has hosted / participated in 29 various national research projects, presided over or participated in the editing/ translation of 28 works such as “Zoonose”, published 210 papers, including 31 SCI papers, chaired/participated in the development of 20 national / industry standards, won 9 Science and Technology Awards, 18 national invention patents, 1 U.S. invention patent, 8 new veterinary medicine registration certificates issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, and 1 temporary production approval number. It won the 13th China Patent Gold Prize, the 1st prize at the second session of Beijing invention patent evaluation, the first prize from the 13th Beijing Technology Market Golden Bridge project, the first prize of military science and technology progress award, the second prize of China Construction Second Science and Technology Award (Ministry of Construction), the Second Prize of China Standard Innovation Award (CNCA), etc., as well as multiple titles such as “Young Expert with Outstanding Contributions named by the Ministry of Agriculture (2005)”, “Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science and Technology Contribution Award (outstanding figures) on the 60th Anniversary of the New China (2009)”, “2011 Scientific Chinese People of the Year, “beneficiary of the special government allowances (2012)”, “National Outstanding Agricultural Research Talent (2012)”, “national outstanding scientific and technological worker (2012)” and so on.
